External Collaboration Award

Winner: IHS Towers (Nigeria)

Entry Overview

One in every five of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria and Unicef estimates 10.5 million children in the country are not in school, even though primary education is officially free and compulsory. To bridge the digital divide and promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (Stem) literacy in Nigeria, IHS Nigeria partnered with Unicef on the School-to-School Connectivity project.

The project focused on improving access to learning infrastructure, devices and mobile connectivity to underserved schools in Nigeria. The project addresses the following needs and challenges:

  • Accelerating connectivity scale
  • Enabling digital access
  • Building ICT labs from Basics

Overall, IHS Nigeria has provided internet connectivity for 413 schools across 15 states in Nigeria.
